Redwoods Resident 2012
Sr. Director - IKC Government Programs

The Redwoods program gave me tremendous exposure to life on the front lines and access to individuals from all across the business—all who were eager and willing to share everything they knew. I was able to experience day-to-day complexities in the clinic setting—managing clinical teammates, P&L and clinical outcomes— as well as visit different parts of the DaVita universe and sit down with DaVita leaders to learn about the multitude of opportunities that exist here. These opportunities helped me navigate career shifts and participate in mentorship within the Village.

I heard early in my Redwoods program, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” This continues to shape my leadership approach today. I didn’t come from a clinical background, which gave me some pause when starting to lead talented clinicians who had been in dialysis longer than I had been alive (as a few of them reminded me!). I love that many of my teammates have knowledge and skills that I may never have, despite degrees or past work experience. I have learned to lead with my heart and build deep relationships. We do challenging but important work, and our relationships are the backbone to my teams’ successes.

My advice for candidates: Be humble! Your success will depend on your ability to connect with our mission and values and your willingness to learn and grow. Be open! You will receive opportunities for new experiences, new challenges and feedback at DaVita. Be ready to dive right in when opportunity presents itself because you never know where it might lead.

I received my undergraduate degree in business (MIS & Operations) at Boston University and MBA at Carnegie Mellon University - Tepper School of Business.

Fun fact: I swam with sharks on my honeymoon (mostly unintentionally).
